Project Spotlight: Western Hills Lower Level Remodel

Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, Dec 5, 2017

For this Western Hills lower level remodel, the homeowners were looking to create a multi-functional basement that allowed for various types of leisure and entertaining. Their goal was to have pockets of rooms that functioned well together, but for each to have a specific purpose, maximizing the usability of the existing square footage. The homeowners’ wish list included space for a game room with a pool table, den, wet bar, home office, and a full bathroom. The blank slate of the basement provided an opportunity to explore a mix of traditional design to match the homeowners’ furnishings, and a transitional feel that would capture a more casual, relaxed feel in the areas their guests would gather.

How to Determine Your Home Design Style

Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, Sep 26, 2017

Do a Google search for "find my design style", and you'll find a plethora of style quizzes. Most of them ask you seemingly random questions that will either hit your style spot on, or be humorously off the mark. Fortunately, there are some key places to look and questions to ask that can get you the answer a lot more accurately.

Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, Jul 25, 2017

Trends in home design can be helpful for determining the current and consistent tastes of homeowners. Trends in Pendant Light Fixtures

Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, May 23, 2017

Pendant lighting is often used as the jewelry of a room. This is especially useful in a kitchen, where cabinetry and counters tend to create a neutral foundation. Despite the wide variety of options available, pendant lights, like most items in design, do go through mild trends. Keep reading to find out the trends we've noticed in recent years.

Hottest Interior Colors of 2017: Bold Neutrals

Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, Jan 10, 2017

Color trend predicting is a fairly important part of the design world. For interiors, having an idea of what is considered a "current" color helps to ensure that new designs in our homes feel well-suited to the present. Color trends look for shades that offer versatility, but also capture the mood or style that seems to be most popular in today's society. Last year's colors were fairly light. Whites and pastels dominated, reflecting the trend toward more unisex design (fewer overtly masculine or feminine spaces), and the continued embracing of a more minimalist lifestyle. This years colors, however, take a decidedly bolder turn. As we enter 2017, sophisticated, dramatic colors feel on-point.

Solutions for Awkward Spaces in Your Home

Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, Jun 21, 2016

Awkward rooms, weird hallways, odd spaces. We've all got them. From that out-of-the-blue angled wall, to the narrow room that isn't quite a room, but somehow doesn't qualify as a hallway either. In some homes, these spaces add character and charm, or possibly a sense of history or pedigree. But most of these types of spaces are throwbacks that don't quite mesh with the modern ways we live our lives and utilize our homes. Posted by Christina Temple on Tue, Apr 19, 2016

Assuming that you're not particularly interested in keeping that linoleum tile your 1970's forebears installed in your kitchen, the choice between tile and hardwood is probably on your mind as you plan your kitchen remodel. With good reason, since both tile and hardwood bring a lot to the table in terms of style and function. There are pros and cons to both, and certainly examples of each to be inspired by.
