Wall Treatment Ideas for Home Bars

If you have your sights set on a new home bar, consider the impact of the wall treatments for an elevated look that can take your new space to the next level. Whether you're planning to create a small wet bar or a large entertaining space with seating, paying some attention to the options for the bar's backdrop can take your new space from something basic to something special and unique. Here are several ideas from our library of past projects to get you inspired.

Full Slab Stone

Just as the full slab backsplash style is making waves in kitchen designs in recent years, the treatment is also a viable option for home bars. Whether you select granite, quartz, marble, or a manufactured stone option, the key is to be sure you take a good look at the colors and what's known as the "movement" in the slab you select. How busy, colorful, or bold these aspects are will have an impact on the final look of your new bar.

Specialty Field Tile

There are thousands of options when it comes to tile, but for a show-stopping statement at your home bar, using a specialty tile with either a unique pattern, shape, or color (or all of the above) is one way to punch up the style. Cut stone tiles or artisan tiles are great choices. There are so many unique tile options available on the market, so the assistance of a designer to help you find the right one can greatly help.

Glass Mosaic or Mirrored Backsplash

Along with specialty field tiles, glass mosaic or mirrored tile is another great option for a bar backsplash. This wall treatment often adds a bit of dramatic glamour to the bar, which can work in a variety of style applications. Antiqued mirror panels, or a glass tile mix will create interesting and unique effects with the bar's lighting scheme, often creating a jewel-like look.

Wallpaper

If you're looking for something more dramatic and detailed, wallpaper might be the right choice. Just like with tiles, there are thousands of wallpaper options on the market, so it's important to consider the visual look you're interested in achieving to help narrow down the style. Whether you opt for a classically-inspired, maximalist floral, or a modern art deco geometric, a wallpaper backsplash is one way to make sure your home bar is one to remember.

Stacked Stone

A classic option that creates a strong statement, stacked engineered stone veneers are a tried-and-true option to create a sophisticated look. This is a great choice when you like the idea of creating a cellar-like den with your home bar, as it immediately conjures up images of old European wine cellars. When combined with dark tones and luxurious details, your home bar can feel like a sophisticated speakeasy and anything but typical.

Wood Tiles

Products such as Friendly Wall® or custom wooden wall treatments are a great way to add a natural and fun element to a bar backsplash. This can also be an eco-friendly option in the case of reclaimed wood or with the use of material products such as bamboo or cork. Products that come in panels that slot together make easier work of this option. Pay attention to any finishing or sealing needed to ensure the wood does not swell or crack, and consider short-term maintenance such as the need for dusting.

Industrial Brick

Whether you use the real thing or just a veneer, brick is a classic material that can instantly create a style for your home bar all on its own. Different colors of the brick and mortar, or different stacking patterns will all make for a different overall look. It's a versatile choice when it comes to the style of your bar as well. Include industrial-style accents for a "converted loft" look or use shabby chic details for a more cozy, cottage-like bar.

When selecting which wall treatments to include, be sure to consider any maintenance or long-term care requirements. This is especially important for any areas of the bar where moisture may be present (such as around a sink or behind a built-in tap). Some wall treatments may be better suited to this type of use than others, or additional sealing or protection may be required to ensure the wall retains a like-new appearance over time. Your designer can help guide you through these considerations.
